Stickley has made a significant and creative furniture design motif that provides a treasured connection to an earlier culture and social structure. It is believed to have served as a symbol of protection for those at rest. The 8-pointed star carries the concept of biblical numerology, for which 8 Carrie’s several possible symbolic meanings, including the Day of Completion after the 7 days of creation, the Easter octave, and Pentecost among others. My mother made one of these decades ago that has been used by my son in teaching cultural connections of students from diverse backgrounds.
